Is the sound source correct?

It could be that you need to switch your sound source. To do so, go to the bottom right corner of your laptop screen and look for a Speaker icon - this may either have sound waves or an X depending if your sound is currently muted or not. When you click it, you’ll then get a window with an option to select your speaker - you’ll want to pick the option that isn’t titled “Speakers” as that’s your laptop - it may be titled something like SMART or EPSOM depending on your room.

If you’re unable to see another speaker option, please double-check that the speakers are turned on in your room - If they are and you still are unable to see the speaker option for your room, please try a restart of your laptop.

Is the board/speakers muted?

If your laptop has an X next to the speaker icon on the bottom right hand corner, it means your sound has been muted on your laptop. Simply click it and turn the volume up to unmute your laptop.

In some rooms, there’s a mute button on the control panel - you can tell if it’s muted by the control panel if the green light is on above the button - press it again to unmute from the panel if needed.  Smart boards like in sixth form or the third floor have a mute button as well - press it to mute/unmute as needed.

If there are external speakers on the wall the speakers may also be turned off - in most cases, this is indicated by a green light on the speakers. If you don’t have a green light, you can turn the speakers off and on again by turning the volume fully down on the speakers and then turning it back up.
